What do you think of Stevia, the natural high intensity sweetener?

As a consumer, everyday I see more and more products that are using Stevia in the place of or in conjunction with sugar, high fructose corn syrup, and artificial high intensity sweeteners like Ace K, Aspartame, and Saccharin. For example, Stevia is used a lot in ready to drink beverages, to reduce calories.

For those who do not know, Stevia is an extract from the Stevia plant (a member of the Sunflower family) that is native to North and South America. Since this sweetener is not chemically synthesized like most other high intensity sweeteners, Stevia is considered a “Natural” high intensity sweetener.

I’m curious to know what you, the consumer, think about Stevia’s use in beverages? Do you currently look for or reject those drinks that contain it?

I had it for the first time last night. It tasted fine. Other than that I don't know anything about it.

I am a student of food science, so I may not be in the desired demographic... but I think Stevia imparts a negative aftertaste. Several companies are attempting to compensate for this aftertaste, but I feel that the nature of the product is less important than its flavor. Synthetic sweeteners do a great job and the FDA says its safe, believe them. I think people should eat for taste; I prefer sugar.

I am a consumer. I reject any foods with aspartame & similar harmful sweeteners. I would LOVE to see more use of stevia and honey. I eat for nourishment with great flavor.

I really want to enjoy stevia as I do not like the artificial sweeteners at all. Splenda leaves my mouth dry.

Stevia has a bitter aftertaste to me. My friend that uses it always adds sugar to cut the bitter aftertaste, but that seems to defeat the purpose to me.

I do tolerate truvia a little. But still prefer sugar over all of them.

I don't like stevia. It has an aftertaste and you really need a lot to make something sweet. I went back to Equal. Stevia is also precessed, just lok at the package ingredients.

I have been using stevia for many years and I love it! I especially like that it's a natural product that comes from a plant.
